Communication Definition
Communicating is a social science, meaning whenever we communicate, we are dealing with people. Communication is the process of creating and sending different types of messages to multiple sources or entities. These messages can be verbal and/or nonverbal, and are typically used to elicit some type of response from the receiver.
Umbrella Department
Every department is unique in-and-of itself but all of us have to accomplish the same thing; knowing how to communicate to a wide variety of audiences. Since our department has many areas of emphasis, each student gets a different perspective on how to communicate. We get this opportunity whenever we encounter the diverse professors and students within this department. Dealing with such complexity will provide me to be more adjustable in situations that are difficult.
Value to Society
I've learned that communication isn't as simple as just talking and that there are many parts to it. Taking different communication classes has made me more open minded and considerate to what other people are saying and experiencing in their own lives. This is something lacking in our society today. People are so eager to tell you their opinions, but in return, not willing to listen to anything you have to say. My value to society is that I have an open mind now and know how to communicate with other who aren't like me, accepting new ideals.
Positive Representation of PSU
The amount of things I have learned in the last four years is something I could never put into words. The biggest thing I have had to come to grips with throughout these last four years is how to deal with failure. My failures have taught me how to accept them, move on, and improve. Moving on and improving is one important thing I've learned how to do without completely beating myself up about it.

This acceptance of failure and the ability to move in will show in all the work I do from this point forward. I know how to work through and solve problems without quitting.
